Following the anode cage installation study for Cadeler, Mocean reduced the conservatism in the current loading by modelling the flow around the monopile in CFD.
The CFD model resolved the current speed around the monopile, including the changes in flow close to the pile. This current profile was then incorporated in an OrcaFlex time domain model for the operability assessment of the splash zone lowering operation. Replacing the conservative current assumption with the computed flow field gave a more realistic basis for the allowable conditions.
