Mocean Offshore has supported Kelp Blue with engineering in their endeavour to restore the health of the oceans and lock away vast amounts of CO2. The engineering work was performed to evaluate the design of their pilot farm off the coast of Namibia. It included analysing survivability of the kelp farm in extreme weather and design sensitivities. Mocean helped to shed light on key challenges like modelling the complex behavior of the kelp beds under wave loading. The work resulted in advice on what components would benefit from redesign to increase safety and to decrease cost where less conservative components would suffice.
